Our Process for Evaluating Cruelty-Free Brands

At Cruelty-Free Kitty, our team diligently contacts emerging beauty and personal care brands on a weekly basis to thoroughly investigate their animal testing policies. Depending on the details they provide in their responses, we categorize each brand into one of three distinct groups: fully "cruelty-free," definitively "not cruelty-free," or falling into a "grey area." We reserve the cruelty-free designation exclusively for those companies that provide comprehensive answers to every one of our detailed inquiries and fully satisfy our stringent cruelty-free standards. In the section that follows, we highlight all the brands that have been newly incorporated into our extensive database during the previous quarter.

The Cruelty-Free 5: Essential Criteria Explained

Every single brand we officially recognize as cruelty-free has explicitly verified compliance with these five core principles:

  • Their own company policies prohibit any animal testing on either finished products or individual ingredients.
  • They ensure that none of their suppliers conduct animal tests on finished products or ingredients supplied to them.
  • No external third parties are permitted to perform animal testing on their finished products or ingredients on their behalf.
  • They refuse to engage in animal testing even in situations where it might be mandated by local laws or regulations.
  • None of their products are distributed or sold in retail outlets located in countries where animal testing is a mandatory requirement for market entry.

These criteria form the foundation of our rigorous evaluation process, guaranteeing that cruelty-free status reflects genuine ethical commitments.

Newly Added Grey Area Brands

To promote greater transparency regarding their animal testing positions, consumers are encouraged to contact these companies directly through social media channels and email correspondence.

  • Naturium - this brand explicitly chose not to disclose their complete animal testing policy to Cruelty-Free Kitty

Recent Status Updates for Brands

Philosophy has undergone a significant positive transformation, shifting from our previous classification among brands known to test on animals to our approved list of cruelty-free options. This change stems from their decision to completely cease all animal testing activities and their subsequent achievement of Leaping Bunny certification, a respected industry standard for ethical verification.

Our ongoing commitment to accuracy means we continuously review and update brand statuses as new information becomes available, helping shoppers make informed, compassionate choices every day.
