Our Process for Evaluating Brands

Here at Cruelty-Free Kitty, our team diligently contacts emerging beauty and personal care brands on a weekly basis to thoroughly investigate their animal testing policies and practices. Depending on the details they provide in their responses, we meticulously categorize each brand into one of three distinct groups: fully "cruelty-free," definitively "not cruelty-free," or falling into a "grey area." Only those brands that provide comprehensive answers to every single one of our detailed inquiries and completely satisfy our stringent cruelty-free standards earn the official "cruelty-free" designation. In the section that follows, we highlight all the brands that have been newly incorporated into our extensive database over the past quarter, reflecting the most recent evaluations and updates.

The Cruelty-Free 5: Our Strict Standards

Every single brand we designate as cruelty-free has explicitly verified and confirmed adherence to all five of these essential criteria, ensuring a comprehensive commitment to animal welfare across their entire supply chain and operations:

  • Their company itself refrains from conducting any animal tests on finished products or individual ingredients at any stage.
  • All of their suppliers are prohibited from performing animal tests on finished products or ingredients used in their formulations.
  • No external third parties are permitted to carry out animal testing on their finished products or ingredients on their behalf.
  • They steadfastly refuse to engage in animal testing even in situations where it might be mandated by local laws or regulations.
  • Their products are never distributed or sold in retail locations within countries where animal testing is a mandatory requirement for market entry.

Newly Added Cruelty-Free Brands

The following brands have successfully demonstrated through their responses that they operate as genuinely cruelty-free entities. This classification guarantees that absolutely no form of animal testing occurs at any point in the production process, from ingredient sourcing through final manufacturing and distribution stages, providing consumers with reliable assurance.

  • Soleil Toujours
  • Naturally Serious
  • Humble
  • Wyn Beauty
  • Orebella
  • Erborian
  • DedCool
  • Innbeauty Project
  • GOOP
  • Lisa Eldridge
  • Ultra Violette

Newly Added Brands That Are Not Cruelty-Free

The brands listed in this category either actively sell their products in nations where animal testing remains a compulsory precondition for market access, or they have openly admitted to conducting animal tests whenever dictated by regulatory authorities or governmental requirements. Such practices prevent them from qualifying as cruelty-free under our rigorous evaluation framework.

  • Osiao
  • Talika
  • Montblanc
  • SoftSheen-Carson
  • Salvatore Ferragamo
  • Mentadent
  • Pearl Drops
  • Pepsodent
  • Pronamel
  • Biotene
  • Polident
  • Breathe Right
  • Menard Cosmetics
  • Loewe
  • Rogaine
  • Walgreens

Newly Added Grey Area Brands

Brands placed in the grey area have either failed to reply despite our repeated outreach efforts via multiple channels, or they provided incomplete responses that did not adequately address every aspect of our comprehensive questionnaire. We encourage shoppers and advocates to support greater transparency by directly contacting these brands through their social media profiles and official email addresses, urging them to clarify their full animal testing policies.

  • Softlips
  • Viseart

Recent Status Updates for Existing Brands

  • Grown Alchemist: This brand has undergone a significant ownership change and is no longer under the umbrella of L'Occitane. As a result, Grown Alchemist is now free from association with a parent corporation that engages in animal testing practices.

We continually refine our database to reflect the latest verified information, helping compassionate consumers make informed choices that align with their values. By prioritizing brands that uphold these high standards, you contribute to a broader shift away from animal exploitation in the beauty industry.
